Monday Makes: DIY Christmas Cards with a Personal Touch

There is still PLENTY of time to send a Christmas Card, and make someones day shiny! I still send cards, and I receive some every year, and there is something just so special about a handwritten card. Here are this years postal dates below! (As a rule of thumb, I always make sure to send anything within the EU by the 17th).

Monday Makes is here, and it’s all about creating your own Christmas cards! This easy, creative project lets you add a personal touch to your holiday greetings—perfect for friends and family.

Materials You’ll Need

  • Cardboard: For cutting out Christmas tree and star stencil shapes.

  • A4 Card: Cut in half to make two cards (you'll get one card from each half).

  • Markers/Pens: Silver or gold for black cards; dark green and dark blue for white cards; additional silver or gold for details.

  • Optional Paint: Dark green for trees, dark blue for stars.

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Prepare Your Card

  • Start with an A4 sheet of card. Cut it in half, and fold each half to create two cards.

2. Cut Out Your Shapes

  • Using cardboard, cut out a Christmas tree shape and a star shape that will fit the front of your card. They should be large enough to fill the card front nicely.

3. Decorate Your Card

  • For black cards: Place the cut-out shapes on the front of your card. Use silver or gold markers and pens to scribble within the shape, adding designs and details.

  • For white cards: Use a dark green marker or paint to colour in the tree and a dark blue for the star. Once dry, add gold or silver scribbles on top for extra detail.

4. Add a Sparkly Background (Optional)

  • Fill the background with silver or white pen, creating stars, circles, and dots for a sparkly effect that enhances the festive theme.

Why DIY?

  • Making your cards allows you to create something unique while being eco-friendly. Plus, it’s a great opportunity to spend quality time with family and kids—after all, isn’t that what this season is all about in the end?
